New Censorship
Plagiarism
Another problem of using the internet is the fact that you never know if what you are reading is properly cited. Some websites directly copy material from other sites hoping it will increase their total number of viewers. This is also a problem for online publishers. Once you put your ideas out on the net it is hard to maintain ownership over those ideas since there is nothing stopping other people from claiming those ideas as their own.
Reliability of Online Sources
The problem with relying on internet sources is the fact that some sites have misinformation. Unless you are sure the site is a reliable source or they have links to a reliable source, you can never be sure that the information presented is true. Usually by sticking to sites with reliable names or sites ending in “.edu,” you can ensure that the information you use is true.
Advantages of the Online Book
There are many advantages to using online internet resources over regular texts. The speed at which one can access information on the internet is remarkable. Information is so much more readily available over the internet. Specifically, newspapers rely on a very limited method of providing information. However, the newspaper’s website can rapidly provide the same information much more efficiently. Therefore, it is much easier to go on the internet and conduct your research there than to go through the trouble of finding a book and using that.
There is also a lot of information that is only available online. Things like blogs, web diaries, and even some books are only published online and have no hard copy. This is another big advantage to using the internet as a source. Overall, it is much easier to find what you are looking for on the internet and there is even the possibility of finding information you would never find in a book.
